The park is centered around the winding Luangwa River, creating an oasis that attracts incredible concentrations of game. Famous for its walking safaris, South Luangwa offers unparalleled opportunities to track leopards, lions, elephants and over 400 bird species. The park’s oxbow lagoons act as magnets for wildlife, especially during the dry season. South Luangwa is also known for its unique Thornicroft’s giraffe and Crawshay’s zebra subspecies found nowhere else in the world.
Access to South Luangwa is primarily through Mfuwe Airport, with connecting flights from Lusaka and Livingstone, or via charter flights.
